Steamboat Springs: Melissa & Chuckie

There is just too much to say about this couple.

This couple, who were our 2012 Free Wedding Giveaway winners.  Why?  To put it bluntly: Melissa was abandoned by her family six years ago when she was just a teen.  Having no idea WHEN or IF her family was coming back, she went through all those firsts that a teen goes through.  Without her biological family.

A learner’s permit.  Prom dresses.  Stick shifts.  College applications.  High school graduation.  A move to a new town and a new college. And her first winter break after her freshman year of college…

Melissa lived with Buck and Tara, a local pastor and his wife, until she left for college.  None of them gave much thought after high school graduation and the move to college.  Though, one semester later, during winter break when Melissa wasn’t allowed to stay in the dorms, it dawned on Buck and Tara that Melissa needed to come “home” for break.

It was then that knew Melissa’s home would always be with them.

I could write for hours about the Love these two know.  The Grace and Mercy that fills them.  And the grace and mercy they extend to others.

I could write for hours about Chuckie’s wedding vows.  He talked of many firsts… Their first date on a freezing, motorcycle ride.  The first time Christmas tree they cut down.  The first time time they said “I love you” in a hot tub surrounded by snow.  Albeit always cold, he always knew the sun was at it his back.  Melissa is his sun.  His warmth.

I’m not sure if Melissa’s tattoo that features the words “Here Comes the Sun” has anything to do with this.  But based on their ceremony recessional song by The Beatles, Here Comes the Sun, I would say so.

Melissa and Chuckie, you two are gems.  This is only our second free wedding giveaway and I am floored at how blessed we’ve been by both couples.  You two never cease to amaze me with your compassion,  your hearts, your love, your patience, and… your warmth.

Thank you for this past Tuesday night.  It definitely wasn’t your average Reveal.  Thank  you for holding my hand and helping me pack my car with my keepsakes as we, together and unexpectedly, watched my city burn.  I couldn’t image going through that night, that tragedy, with any other couple.

So much love and joy to you both,
René (+ Jesie too!)
