This is the story of the Son of God
Hangin’ on a cross for me
But it ends with a bride and groom
And a weddin’ by a glassy sea
Oh, death, where is your sting?
‘Cause I’ll be there singin’
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord
This is the story of a bride in white
Waitin’ on her weddin’ day
Anticipation wellin’ up inside
While her groom is crowned a King
Oh, death, where is your sting?
‘Cause we’ll be there singin’
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord
Engaged: Allison and Jacob
The above lyrics are from The City Harmonic’s Holy. I heard it at a wedding a few months back. As I edited these images, Holy came over my iTunes. Thoughts of Allison and Jacob’s love story ran through my mind and I couldn’t help but think how this song was theirs too.
Allison and Jacob came to me just as soon as they were engaged. It pained me to tell them we were already booked for their June wedding date. I was thrilled that they still wanted me to photograph their engagement. What an honor. Allison was an acquaintance of mine in college. I got to know her better as the Starbucks barista just down the road from my house. We had a few coffee dates and were always able to open up to each other. She’s just one of those girls whose faith and love is so loud it’s contagious and comforting all at the same time.
Now Jacob, I didn’t know super well. We ran into each other at church once in a while. In fact, I remember the day this past summer when Allison said they were on their way after church to do some ring shopping! Little did Allison know, he would get the ring of her dreams and book the Academy Chapel months in advance before proposing this past September. The three of us completely hit it off during their shoot talking about all things Air Force. Jacob graduates from the Academy this May and is likely off to Florida to start his career with his new bride.
Allison and Jacob, thank you, thank you, thank you for letting me shoot your love story. I’m bummed I can’t be there on the wedding day, but know that I’ll be thinking and praying for you two. Allison, I look forward to our double dates with our Airmen!
So much love and joy to you both,
René
