There are few things more meaningful than photographing a family’s story over the years.
Twelve years ago, I had the honor of photographing Becca and Dave’s wedding at Spruce Mountain Ranch. Like so many of my couples, life has taken them on new adventures since then. They now call Chicago home and are raising three beautiful daughters, including an energetic set of twins.

This summer, while visiting Colorado on vacation, they reached out to see if we could squeeze in family portraits. There was no way I was going to say no.
The weather had other plans.
All afternoon, the forecast threatened rain. By the time they arrived at my Northgate location in Colorado Springs, the sky was dark, the clouds were heavy, and a light sprinkle had already begun. We looked at each other, smiled, and decided to go for it anyway.
I’m so glad we did.

Within minutes, the rain faded and the clouds opened just enough for the evening sun to peek through, giving us a brief window of the most beautiful warm, orange light. It felt like a little gift before the clouds rolled back in.
Instead of worrying about perfect weather, we embraced the evening exactly as it was.
The girls explored the tall grass, laughed with their sisters, snuggled up with Mom and Dad, and simply enjoyed being together. Those unscripted moments are often my favorites because they capture something much deeper than a perfectly posed portrait. They preserve personality, connection, and the joy of this season of life.
Watching Becca and Dave with their daughters was also a reminder of why I love reconnecting with past wedding clients. Years ago, I documented the day they promised forever. Today, I get to photograph what forever looks like twelve years later.
That is one of the greatest privileges of this job.
Whether you’re visiting Colorado, celebrating a milestone, or simply wanting to remember your family exactly as they are today, these are the photographs that only become more valuable with time.
This isn’t content.
This is legacy.
Becca & Dave, I love you so much. Thank you for inviting me into this magical season of life. Rooting for you from Colorado and can’t wait to see you again. You are joy. You are light. And it was a GIFT to see you!
With love & gratitude,
René
