If there’s one question I get more than any other, it’s this: “What should we wear?”
And I get it. It matters. What you wear shapes the entire feel of your images. It’s the difference between something that feels trendy and something that feels timeless.
But here’s the good news. It doesn’t have to be complicated!
Start with Neutrals (Always)
When in doubt, build your outfits around soft, natural tones: Ivory. Cream. Warm browns. Soft greens. Muted blues. These colors photograph beautifully in Colorado’s landscape. The grass, the mountains, the sky. They all work with you instead of competing for attention. And the result? Images that feel calm, cohesive, and enduring.

Think Texture Over Pattern
Instead of bold patterns or logos, lean into texture: Linen. Cotton. Knits. Flowy fabrics. Layers. A simple dress that moves in the wind will always photograph more beautifully than something busy or overly structured. Patterns can work, but keep them subtle and minimal. One or two at most across the whole family.

Coordinate, Don’t Match
Gone are the days of everyone in white shirts and jeans. Instead, think in terms of a shared palette. Start with one outfit, often mom’s, and build everyone else around it. Let colors complement each other without being identical. This creates depth and visual interest without feeling forced.

Dress for Movement
Colorado light loves movement. A dress that catches the breeze. A sweater that drapes softly. A child twirling barefoot in the grass. These are the details that bring images to life. If it feels a little romantic and a little effortless, you are on the right track.

Don’t Forget the Setting
Here in Colorado Springs, we are often working with: Golden grass, mountain views, open sky, soft evening light. Your wardrobe should feel at home in that environment. This is why I often guide clients toward light, airy, organic pieces. It allows you to be the focus, not what you are wearing.
A Final Thought
When you look back on these photos years from now, you will not care if something was in style. You will care that it feels like you. Simple. Beautiful. Honest. That is always the goal. The bottom line: think of your style, just dressed up a little. :-) And if you need help, I am here every step of the way, down to the last detail. 🤍
Happy styling!
