Expect the unexpected.

I woke up one January morning to an email with the subject line, “Pre-wedding Photography in Iceland.”  I thought it was a gimmick.

Five months later, I’ve been to Iceland and back.

Expect the unexpected.

At the conclusion of my Icelandic photo shoot, I received an email from my brother with the subject line: “Call Dad ASAP.”  I didn’t know what to think.

Five days later I’m giving IV shots to my best little pal and ailing cat, Calvin.

Expect the unexpected.

You just never know what life is going to throw at you.

But if this past eventful week has proven anything, it’s that John is my best friend and my teammate.  Sure, we don’t always see eye to eye and fight constantly about the car temperature and when it’s appropriate to use the A/C  versus the fan (ugh, girls, do you deal with this?!), but the one thing that’s never unexpected is that I can always expect that man’s support.

He’s the one who researches Icelandic rental cars.  The one who FaceTimes with me at 2AM from a remote Icelandic hotel as I sob about having to put down my cat.  Who drives to Denver with me for a shoot just to spend extra time with me.  Who lets me listen to car radio little extra loud on the drive home cause he knows I love that song.  And even though he’s not a cat lover, he’s even there to hold and love on Cal.

He’s forgiving.  And kind.  He’s patient.  And sweet. And forever optimistic.

And I can always expect him to be my teammate.
