To My Jesie

Okay, so I’m not going to lie… being Jesie’s best friend and her boss is not easy to juggle.

Think about it.

Sometimes we spend so much time together working that we forget to just go out and do girl stuff.  You know, stuff best friends do.  Go to wine bars, paint our nails together, go shopping, meet at Starbucks to just talk…

Instead, we drive up to Estes Park together on Friday night cause we have to wake up super early the next morning for a wedding.  Then we drive home at midnight jamming to some Kid Rock and Chris Tomlin (oh yeah), part ways, and do it all over again the next day.  But don’t forget all the text messages and phone calls we trade throughout the week about work stuff leading up to the weekend of weddings.  Mix in a few nights a week of working side-by-side editing photos, listening to the latest iTunes downloads, and  cuddling with Cal.  And yes, that’s Jesie who cuddles with him while she works, not me. :-) Lather, rinse, repeat.  That us.

Sometimes I drop the ball being a best friend.  Sometimes I expect too much out of her at work that I forget we’re friends first.

But sometimes, I rock at being a best friend and I’m not a good boss.  And this is one of those cases….

You see, Jesie celebrated her Golden Birthday on Monday, the 26th.  I didn’t forget about it.  In fact, I didn’t even need an iCal reminder. No, cause this is one of those times when I was all best friend through and through.  No, I picked her up and swept her away to lunch at her favorite restaurant, she opened a couple of cards… one from Calvin and a handmade one from me – cause Jesie likes that kind of thing. :-)  And then I gave her a gift that I’d been thinking about for a long time.  We’ll continue our celebration on Monday night at the Two Friends Tour with Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith – concert tickets that Jes gave ME for my birthday… but they’re part hers too, cause it IS the Two Friends Tour. :-)

Like I said, I was a good friend on Monday, September 26th.  But I was a horrible boss.  I didn’t even mention anything on the blog about her birthday!! Ikea… I feel terrible.  Cause I know y’all love her just as much as I do, it’s unfair to not give you a chance to share your love and birthday wishes with her. :-)

So this post is dedicated to my soul sister, Jesie.  My partner in crime.  My sister-in-Christ.  My sentence finisher.  My wine buddy.  My teach me how to curl my eye lashes friend.  My surprise me with an Orange Crush when she comes to work friend.

I love you, Jesie McElroy.  Happy Birthday Week!!

Love,
Tater
