We are so pleased to share with you a new resource for the Southern Colorado bride.  ModishWed is a resource of inspiration for the Colorado Springs and Southern Colorado Bride. They promote and showcase local, emerging wedding vendors that have a flair for the modern and trendy.

I guess that’s us. :-)

When Amber and Amanda from ModishWed wrote to see if we were interested in supporting them, we were absolutely honored!  Colorado Springs needs these two lovely ladies. We’re excited to help out such ambitious ladies – we know a thing or two about ambitious ladies. ;-)   We were even more excited when we got the emailing saying Ashton and Mike’s engagement session was featured on the front page of the ModishWed blog!

Check it out!

Hey yo!  Happy Friday!  Wanted to hop on real quick and share with you this featured blog that our business card producers made highlighting our design.  We absolutely loved working with Dolce Press, based out of New England.  They did an amazing job with our cards and were so quick and easy to communicate.

Thank you, you guys!  We love you.  We’ll be back.

Colorado Springs Independent “Best Of”

22.10.09 press, the latest & greatest

Well, folks… WE DID IT!  SECOND PLACE in the 16th Annual Colorado Springs Independent “Best Of” Contest!  The COS Independent is one of the biggest papers in the area.  Over 6,000 Independent readers voted.  I am completely elated!  What an incredible honor.  To be so young and to have only started this business a couple of years ago.  I feel so incredibly loved and honored by all my sweet clients, family, and friends. THANK YOU everyone who voted!  You rock!

To Teresa Lee and Cayton Photography – congratulations!  What an honor to be ranked with such photographic giants.  Your work is just astonishing.  To Amon Medinger of StrikingIA.com, thank you for taking me under your wing when I first picked up a camera.  Mike Colón and Justin and Mary Marantz, you three inspire me to be a better photographer every day.  Thank you for setting the bar extremely high; I can only hope to be as inspiring and impactful as you some day.  Jesie, your support and encouragement and constant positive attitude has made this business a blasty-blast.  Thank you for learning and growing with me.  The best is yet to come. And to all my family, friends, and avid blog readers: thank you for always encouraging me and affirming me.  I’d be nothing without your support. You give me the confidence and credibility to know that I’m doing something right.

I’ve learned so much over the last couple of years and have traveled all over the U.S. doing this “job.”  I feel as though I’m only getting started.  I’m barely scraping the surface of what’s out there to learn and who I want to be as a photographer.  Every shoot I go on, every meeting I have, I am learning something new.  I feel so undeserving of this award in some ways… I’ve heard that there are over 200 photographers in this community.  And if that’s true… I don’t know… this is the most incredible honor or award I have ever received.  I am in awe.  Thank you, everyone.  Thank you.

best-of

Award winning photojournalist? Me?!

26.09.09 press, the latest & greatest

The Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) is a pretty exclusive organization made up of photographers who have the same kind of photography style as Jes and I do. Members from all over the world participate in the WPJA’s quarterly photo contests, and the level of competition is quite high.

I entered one contest last year and didn’t do so hot. After some feedback from other photographers, it was a no brainer as to why my images didn’t place. This year, I entered several images into various categories for the second quarter contest. I was pretty confident, especially with all my sweet feedback in mind, though was bummed on all accounts to find out that when the results were posted on Wednesday, RTP was NO WHERE to be found… Or so I thought.

Totally bummed out and thinking, “Oh well, life goes on” and then of course humming LeAnn Rimes’ pop tune, “Life Goes On” I went on with life.  The next morning (Thursday), I was up bright and early for a shoot. Running way behind schedule, I rolled out of bed and quickly checked my email to see if I had any notes from any deployed military people ;).  Much to my surpise, I checked my mail to find this out-of-the-norm Google alert:

googlealert

Stunned and  still VERY groggy, I clicked the link which took me to this screen that nearly took my breath away.  Especially when I saw I placed 12th out of 20! And in the cake cutting category?!  I don’t even remember entering that one… which is exactly why I missed it the day before.

….At least I thought I placed twelfth. Extremely excitedly, I emailed those closest to me and told them the awesome news.  “Twelfth place,” “prestigious organization,” and “big deal” were among some of the phrases I used in my email.  On yeah, and alot of these !! and these :) :).   After hitting the send button, I eagerly did an Apple + Tab to switch back to the winning screen, only to find out that, in my fresh-out-of-bed state of mind, I actually read the line incorrectly.  I placed LAST, twentieth, not twelfth!  haha  I had a good laugh with my cat who was enjoying all the ruckus and quickly sent a retraction.  Honestly, it was no big deal, I was absolutely elated to have even placed in a WPJA contest.  That’s a B.D.  (Big deal, that is. :D)

Wish me luck again as I enter the Q3 contest next month! Definitely make sure you check out WPJA.com and see the other categories and  a m a z i n g  winning images!

Hey Dennis! Yes, you do have to be an WPJA member. If you’ve already applied, be patient. It took a super long time for me to hear about my acceptance. Btw, St. Louis photographer? Look forward to meeting you next time we’re out there!
