Lake Como, Varenna, Italy Anniversary: Jenn & Eric

The new René Tate brand, is one built on love, legacy, and adventure.  We capture couples in love who love adventure.  We are for those who love to lose themselves in a new city, eat food they can’t pronounce, check things like “Paris” and “sky dive” off their bucket lists, and have the kind of experiences most people only dream about.

For Jenny & Eric, that might mean taking an Italian cooking class (in Italy from cute, old Italian ladies), or harvesting Italian lavender, horseback riding through vineyards, or sunsets on the beaches of Tuscany with their kiddos.

It might also mean, in Jenny’s words, hiring your dream photographer to fly across the Atlantic Ocean to photograph you. WHAT?! I don’t know how I got so lucky but I wake up everyday grateful to God that he created such beautiful, adventurous, couples who say “Why not?” instead of “Why?”,  and ever thankful to Him for this beautiful gift of photography & loving on people that he’s given me.

Jenny & Eric, what a PRIVILEGE to celebrate this season of life with you!  From the bottom of my heart, thank you for inviting me to Italy, thank you for trusting me to capture your relationship (and your family’s!), and for exploring the unknown with me.

It’s a joy to watch you live your lives so beautifully and full of joy, regardless of your circumstances.  Although, when in Italy, those are tough circumstances to beat. ;-) But truly, you inspire me to make the most of every day with the ones you love.

With love, joy, and an Undeniably Adventurous Heart,

Jenny, Eric, and I met up in a place neither of us had ever been before.  One of Northern Italy’s great lakes, Lake Como, in a small shoreside town called Varenna.  Just across the lake from the famous town of Bellagio.  (Yes, it was a real place long before Vegas got its hands on it.)

I arrived a couple of days early before our shoot.  One day was travel after flying into Milan late at night.  And the next day was to scout Varenna.

Every single day of the weekend called for heavy rain and clouds.  All the weather apps said so.  The days leading up to the shoot, I scouted in the rain, ate my pizza in the rain, and walked the streets of Bellagio to my florist in the rain.

Normally, we shoot in the afternoon and catch the golden, soft sunset slight, but based on the previous few days, all the rain had been coming in the afternoon.  So we opted for an early morning shoot.

And wouldn’t you know it, the heavens opened up and the skies cleared.  The first part of our shoot was shady, but you’ll see as the day came alive, so did the warm Italian sun.

And sometimes we stopped for cappuccinos and that’s okay when we had the whole day in front of us. :-)

Part II of our shoot, included a little surprise up my sleeve: a private boat tour of the coast!  Unfortunately, the sun came out in full force, so unexpectedly, but we shot around it and made it work.

As my good friend, and fellow photographer, Kenny Kim says, Varenna might just be the closest place to heaven without leaving earth.  I think he’s on to something. :-)

Congratulations, Jenny & Eric!!  Here’s to the adventurous, who would rather take the scenic route any day.  Who believe in leaving a legacy of love for the children to follow.

Are you interested in a destination shoot?!  Let’s talk!  We cover our own airfare (!!) to anywhere in the world, and just ask that you grab ground transportation and a couple of nights of hotel.  We would love to adventure with you! You only live once, and we believe in documenting passionate couples against backdrops that take your breath away, whether it be a pre-wedding shoot in South Africa’s wine country, an elopement in Perth, a vow renewal at the Eiffel Tower, or a wedding in the Scottish Highlands.
