Country Wedding: Kami and Chris – Part I

Kami and I have known each other for five years. I’ve watched her blossom from a young, driven, college girl to a young, still driven, but wildly giddy and in-love, business woman. I remember when she first met Chris and have watched their relationship grow over the years. I knew he was something special when Kami hired me to do her senior portraits and asked if Chris could tag along for a few shots.
Kami is from a very, very small town out on the eastern plains of Colorado. A town called Towner, where she spent the morning with her best girlfriends and family getting ready for the rest of her life. We shot in the house Kami grew up in and then walked across the street to shoot in the tiny chapel where most Towner residents attend church. The church itself seats about fifty people, so Kami and Chris opted to have their ceremony at a larger church about 45 minutes away in Eads, CO. Kami and her family worked so hard on this day and I think you’ll agree it’s the most perfect little country wedding you have ever seen.
By the way, I’m trying something kind of new. Tell me what you think about blog posts with no white borders. The images are about 100 pixils larger. I’ve also increased the size of the solo vertical images. Give me some feedback all ye blog readers.

Okay, I love this! Kami’s grandma, who passed away several years ago, left this little, teeny, tiny Bible for Kami which she carried in her bouquet.

This is kinda cool… It was super important to Kami to get married on her parents’ anniversary. This is a shot of wedding bells on Kami’s mom’s calendar in place of Saturday, May 1st.

Loved this moment when Kami’s grandpa came down to see her.
He was so sweet. He talked to every person in that house and asked them their profession, what they studied in school, where they live, etc. He made us all feel at home!

Okay, this photograph of Kami’s cousin Misty could, quite possibly, be one of my favorites from the whole day!
While I shot with just Kami for a minute in the church, Jes took the rest of the girls out for some Vogue-esque shots.
LOVE.
And then we headed back outside to meet Jesie and girls and do a couple more shots. Love this action shot!
Kami’s colors of yellow and brown were so perfect for her country-style wedding.
Once we finished up with the girls, Jes and I hopped in the car and drove into Eads to meet with the guys and then go to the ceremony!

Denver Engagement: Kristi & Brett

I have the coolest brides and grooms.
Period.
It was the Friday of Memorial Day Weekend. I was in Springs. Kristi and Brett were in Denver. Our shoot was scheduled for 6pm in downtown Denver. Bad idea, René. Bad idea. I’m not sure what I was thinking scheduling a shoot on one of the busiest traffic days of the year. Kristi and I took one look at our respective sections of the I-25 and realized it was a no brainer – we must move this shoot to another day. Only problem was, I only had the next morning open. So 7:30am it was. That evening Kristi contacted me, “Brett and I are sitting on our patio watching the sunset and are loving this light! We want to shoot even earlier to get the best light!” “Oh my goodness,” I thought. “This is too good to be true! Really?” I asked. “Yes, we’ll be there at 4am if that means the best light.”
Love these guys.
Luckily the sun doesn’t rise at 4am, cause that would mean a 3am departure from Colorado Springs and that’s just crazy talk! It does, however, rise around 5:00 am and the best light to be had is 5:45am – so that was it. Kristi, Brett, and I met at the Balistreri Vineyards at 5:30 am and then ventured downtown to get some i n c r e d i b l e urban shots. These two are quite simply the definition of the bomb dot com. Had we started at 7:30 am, the light would’ve been far too harsh. We actually all loved being out and about so early – the urban shots were cake as there were virtually no cars around, freeing up parking lots, alleys, and streets. It was perfect. I could get used to this!
Anyone else up for a sunrise shoot? Please contact me! It’s a great way to start the day. :-) I’ll be honest though, I couldn’t help but hum this song and play this scene over and over in my head as I drove to Denver at 4:30 in the morning:
hehe What can I say? That’s just how my mind works! :-)

Kansas City Engagement: Tonya & JP

Happy Tuesday! Actually, happy June 1st! I hope everyone had a long relaxing Memorial Day Weekend. Was it just me, or did it feel longer than three days? It was a busy three days on this end with a couple engagement shoots, meetings, and a family shoot. Yet, I also managed to spend some quality time with my family, the boy, and his family. Best of both worlds I call that. In addition, I think I was able to sleep off the rest of this cold that hit hard last Wednesday while in Kansas City for Tonya and JP’s engagement shoot.
I tell ya, I didn’t know how I’d get through their shoot! I landed in Kansas City at 9am on Wednesday of last week and spent the whole day in daze, all plugged up, exhausted, miserable. I wasn’t meeting with Tonya and JP until three that afternoon, so I spent the morning drinking water and tea and popping cold medicine. You can imagine how I was feeling, never having met this couple before and feeling like a biohazard. But let me just say something happened. This ended up being one of my favorite shoots of the season. I’m rather proud of it, actually. I wasn’t sure how I was going to get through it, but somewhere between CVS cold medicine, a few Facebook-solicited prayers, and Tonya and JP’s dynamic personalities – I felt like I million bucks at the end of their shoot – completely energized and ready to to it all over again!
I can’t brag enough about my brides and grooms. I don’t know how I get so blessed to have the easiest and most fun people to photograph. Tonya and JP have this perfect recipe of sugar and spice. They’re sweet yet spunky. Endearing yet oh-so sarcastic. Bold but laid-back. I just love how they love each other. This is an über long post – it was far too difficult to narrow down these images! Lucky for you. ;-)
After the shoot, Tonya sent these words that meant a lot to me.
We can’t stop raving about the photo shoot. It was soo much fun. JP keeps telling me that he had a great time. I wanted to tell you this….. I think as a couple, who have been together for a few years now, with children involved, it becomes challenging to find moments of romance….. when it’s just about the man and the woman – nothing more, nothing less. René, we had more than just a fun time. It was incredible for us as lovers and best friends in soo many ways. Thank you for that!

Okay, can we talk about these colors? I always tell our clients to bring “the more the merrier” regarding wardrobe, because you never know what will inspire me and what will compliment certain backgrounds. When I saw their purple outfits and then saw a nearby yellow (complimentary to purple) wall with purple accents, I knew it was meant to be. These are some of my favorite images solely because of the colors. Wardrobe can make or break your shoot, kids.
*sigh* Don’t you just feel at peace with all those complimentary colors? So easy on the eyes.

The ONE picture that stood out for me, was of the small BIBLE from Kami’s gma. Not knowing it was from my mom, until the next picture which took my breath away and I nearly cried.

I like the pic of the girls on the steps of the church, the shot of Misty on the church steps, and if you could put some red in the tulips in the sepia one of the girls on the porch, that one would be fantastic. You do super work!

Oh my goodness. I was so sad that I couldn’t be at the wedding, but Rene’s photos took my breath away and brought me to tears. I am so happy for my dear friends and especially love the boots! Yeehaw!

Again, amazing pictures! I loved reading Kami’s story. My favorites in this group are of the girls on the front step of the house. Both the sepia shot and the color shot are beautiful! I am a fan of the pictures without the white borders as well.
