Okay, sit back, relax, and put yourself in a mindset that’s about sixty years old. I recently joined one of my best friends, Meghan, and her younger sister Katie for a totally sweet, vintage sister shoot in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. We had a total blasty-blast playing dress up and creating a themed shoot. Meg and Katie have the most piercing eyes you have ever seen… Enjoy!

engagements
You can tell they’re best friends.
It was in the way they held hands and ran and jumped towards the camera. The way they had their “bread and butter sides.” You can tell they are best friends when he casually said, “You know what my favorite part about the cold is? It’s how it makes your cheeks kind of rosy. I like that.” It was the way he broke the ice by swooping her up as if he was carrying her over a long threshold. You were blind if you didn’t see it in the way they danced with one another. The way she effortlessly fell into his arms. The way he dipped her single-handedly. And the simple way she trusted him.
But their love is deeper than just friendship. Their love is comfortable. It’s true. It’s solid. Anyone can see it. It’s evident in the way she looks up at him with her piercing brown eyes. The way he leans his forehead against hers to meet her gaze. The way she holds him with not just her arms, but with her whole body. Their love is easy, playful, and tender… just as love should be.
Introducing Joe and Alicia: teammates.
Alicia and Joe were engaged on September 12, 2009 as a result of being teammates. They participated in the Denver Diamond Dash. A scavenger hunt around urban Denver in a quest for a $15K Hearts of Fire diamond ring. Refusing to maintain the status quo of running and bicycling, Alicia and Joe are the first and only couple to ever complete the dash on ROLLER BLADES. Yeah, I told you I have the coolest brides and grooms. Check out their story and watch videos of them winning at DenverDiamondDash.com.
Oh did I mention, we did their engagement shoot in 28 degree weather? What can I say? They’re cool. ;) Pun absolutely intended. The sky and snow was too incredible to reschedule. We shot around their home in Aurora, Colorado at a local RTD Light Rail train station. Pretty much the sweetest thing ever.

I LOVE these!

Alicia, you are so stunning!

Ahhh! This makes me so warm and fuzzy inside. I love this shot!

“She’s got Betty Davis eyes…”

These make me smile.

Check out this look!

Pretty much the coolest look ever.

Nothin’ like hangin’ out in an overpass. :)

So the RTD has this nifty little drop-off zone called the Kiss n Ride. I thought it was pretty cute. :)

OMG – these are toooo cute! I can tell that it was a blast to shoot them just by looking at their pictures. :)
They Look like such a fun couple!!! I love the pictures!!!
these are so wonderful! as a frequent user of the kiss-n-ride, I appreciate that you used it in these photos :) These two look like such a happy couple, and you photographed them beautifully!
This shoot is fabulous & looks quite familiar, but all covered in snow! Ha ha. I absolutely LOVE the snow shots! They’re so much fun & cozy! Another great shoot, girl!
Oh, and I forgot to mention…now that I’ve taken my second pass through the photos…the one with them at the end of the overpass, when they’re kissing and their reflection is in the first few windows…especially the left side with her leg kick… seriously… just became my favorite RTP picture (next to my favorite umbrella image). Such an appreciation for your work my friend!
This very easily could be my favorite engagement session yet… there is something about every image, your angle, their look, the composition, the color that just makes every image worthy of a stop…pause… and enjoy. I cannot wait to get married, mainly because I want you to be my photographer!
Oh thank you so much Rene! I love it! Thanks again for putting up with us in the freezing cold.. You are so incredibly talented and cannot wait for the wedding!

Friends. Teammates. Travel-companions. Concert-goers. Just a few phrases that describe Tracey and Mike. They are on constantly on the go. One day in Vegas, the next at hockey game, the next tooling around Estes Park… which is exactly where this adventure begins. Tracy, Mike, and I met in Estes, one of their favorite places, a few weeks ago. We had a killer time just piling into my CR-V and chatting up a storm the whole day. I was in awe to learn of how much they do together. They live quite a life going to events and taking vacations together. Tracey and Mike are relaxed, funny, and up for anything – including shooting in the rain! I’m looking forward to their wedding in April, which will be my FIRST wedding in my home town of Cañon City!
Tracey and Mike, thank you so much for a fabulous day in Estes! I can’t wait for our dinner date and church tour. :)

Mike was so good at making Tracey laugh.

And me!

Love this one!

Tracey! You are so gorgeous.

Major hockey rivalry on our hands: Canada and US.

Mike and Tracey, great pictures of my great friends. Life time friends and I did not know he was so photogenic.
Great pictures, you both look so happy. Congratulations.

Fantastic photos! I’m an ‘old’ friend of Mike’s from high school….it’s wonderful to see how happy he looks! I’m sure they will absolutely treasure these photos!
Those are really fun pictures and I love the way that they seem so real and not so posed. Mike and Tracey look like they are having so much fun together!
Love, the pics Rene!
These are FANTASTIC! Being the mother of the groom and loving Tracey, I might be a bit prejudice. We had seen toe original, but the blog is way beyond our expectations. What a super job, Rene. Thanks so very much. We are looking forward to the wedding pictures.

We will be the first of the Canadian relatives to comment! Because we don’t get to see Tracey and Mike, it was nice to get a real feeling for their relationship. We can see how much they care about each other and when you have family so far away it’s a comfort to see that she is cared for and loved in her everyday living. Sister Tracy,brother-in-law Rob and neice Lauren in Halifax, NS
What can I say except these are AWESOME!! Of course, I might be a little prejudice because the pictures are of my brother and his fiance!! We had no doubt we were picking the best photographer around! Plus, making the blog is quite the privilege! Great job, Rene, and THANKS!
Oh…these are so fun! I love the hockey jersey series… and the expressions on his face, how he holds her… priceless memories! Amazing, as always.

They say you should do one thing every day that scares you… Now, I like JUST wrote about being fearless, so it’d be ridiculous to say that the photography featured below scares me. But had I not just written about fears, I’d say pet photography is a bit of a fear. Animals just don’t respond the same when I say, “This is your wedding day! Let’s see that smile!” hehe Pet photography is definitely a challenge, but just like child photography, you have to take your time, be quiet, be calm, and be patient. Oh, and have treats… Cheerios, Bacon Bits, whatever works. ;)
Met up with a long lost friend to do pictures of the family pets for his family’s Christmas presents. It was a fun experience and a breath of fresh air compared to two people kissin’ on each other. :) My favorite to kick off the post:

So stinkin’ cute!
I’ve gotta admit, I’m slightly more of a cat person, but these little babies tipped the scales a bit.

Jesie was so jealous she couldn’t make it to this shoot… She has an Australian Shepherd too!

Love the composition on this one.
Yeah… totally taunting with treats on this one..
P.S. Your favorite is also my favorite, he looks so wise and cheerful!
How adorable are they, you should make a calender and sell them. I would def buy one but I really love animals!
Tell me again what you think you can not do? Very impressive stuff!!!
Rene, these are just so cute! Put a huge smile on my face :)
lol Oh it’s the target dog!!!! I’m not a dog person but these are so cute :D
Rene, these are so great! Man, for a cat person, you really captured the “dogginess” of these guys :) I can’t help it, the aussie reminds me of the famed “cupcake dog” http://blissfullycaffeinated.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/cupcakedog.jpg
I love the one were the doggie (maybe Boomer) has his eyes closed! He looks so happy! Almost like he is smiling! Maybe next time you are in Steamboat you can photograph Tuck…you might need more than treats to keep him still ;) Miss you.
AB-SO-LUTE-LY stunning. The family will be blown away by these captured images! You can NO LONGER say that you aren’t a pet photographer! I am in awe of these portraits, my friend. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Talk to you soon, have a great trip!
Goosebumps Rene.. Goosebumps….I really can’t tell you just how proud of you I am. Seeing you from early on you just produce the most amazing work. Congrats on all your sucess!
